The Cat was Back for Dr. Seuss's 104th Birthday

The Frederick County Education Association held a Read Across America Book Blast on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the local Apple Blossom Mall.  Businessman, Jim Stutzman; Frederick County School Board Member, Ben Waterman; and Frederick County Educators and students read to area children.  Our own Frederick County librarian and storyteller, Pauline Wells, told her captivating story called The Smelly Feet.

Countless children were excited to have their picture taken with Cat-in-the-Hat.  Thing One and Thing Two had fun visiting with all of the children during the event.  Children as well as the adults were enthralled with making hats, coloring, participating in the activities, and of course listening to the stories being told.

The Sherando High School Interact Club and the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) members helped with portraying the characters and the distribution of stickers and free books to children and parents.  On the Cat in the Hat's 51st birthday we wanted to send children the message that reading is really important.
